Creating iconic, one-of-a-kind pieces from upcycled ties in the heart of Groningen <3
Tongue-tied was born from a combination of my love for old, OLD ties and upcycling, making new pieces from what's often left to die, overlooked in thrift stores and charity shops, stuck there forever.
To make the first pieces, I emptied my dad's closet and made myself a funky pair of flared jeans. My grandpas were not safe either, their tie collections quickly turned into a FIRE skirt and a couple of excellent belts. Now, I hand-select all my ties from thrift stores both locally in Groningen, and also in my hometown in Poland, where all the lovely sellers already know me and set aside the best pieces for me :).
Tongue-tied is a brand built on the idea of zero waste, I aim to use all parts of my ties and transform them into belts, tops, dresses, skirts, flared jeans.. They are such versatile items that everything is possible, really.
This brand is my child and I want it to be free from any labels and assumptions: genderless, ageless, trampy (but not in the orange way ;), sometimes a little messy but always iconic and forever open, welcoming all the misfits of this world <3
I am involved in every part of the process. I hand pick the ties myself, work on the designs on my own and sew everything alone too. It's just me and my sewing machine, making art from ties in my little studio in the heart of Groningen <3. Sometimes my sister joins me for the markets (who doesn't love an unpaid intern), but other than that, I am responsible for everything, from designs and production, to sales and marketing (and also all the silly reels you can see on my insta :)).
