Amsterdam-based Julahas was founded by me in 2019 and has grown from working with 1 artisan community in India to 14 communities across India (mostly women). Weaving textiles is our expertise and we keep our looms active all through the year to make sure our artisans have fair and regular employment. Woolmark certified wool is our core fabric and next to that, we also weave wool and peace silk, organic cotton, in addition to block printing. Our products range from zero waste kimonos, size inclusive overlays and kaftans. We accessories with belts that are handwoven and hand embroidered in small batches.
At Julahas, fabric is not a starting point—it is our expertise, our language, and our legacy. Every textile we create is the result of a deep understanding of fiber, structure, and handcraft, shaped through close collaboration with skilled artisans across India. We work continuously—not seasonally—to ensure our looms are active year-round, allowing craftsmanship to evolve without interruption and sustaining consistent livelihoods for the 14 artisan partners we proudly work with today.
Our approach is rooted in material integrity. One of our most distinctive developments is our wool-silk fabric, a refined blend of fine merino wool and wild mulberry silk. This textile embodies both technical precision and tactile beauty: the warmth and resilience of wool balanced by the luminosity and fluidity of silk. Handwoven with care, it reflects our commitment to creating fabrics that are not only luxurious, but enduring in both quality and relevance.
We collaborate with artisan communities in the remote villages of Garhwal, Uttarakhand, where silk rearing, spinning, and weaving are integral to daily life and local economies. Here, expertise is generational. The process begins long before the loom—silk is hand-spun in village courtyards, often in shared moments of conversation and connection. This human rhythm is embedded into every thread, resulting in textiles that carry both technical excellence and cultural depth.
For us, everything begins with the fabric: an uncut length of cloth, thoughtfully developed and patiently woven, holding the potential to become something timeless. Whether shaped into our signature kimonos or versatile, gender-neutral overlays, each piece is designed to honor the textile it comes from. These are garments built on substance—meant to be worn often, lived in fully, and valued over time.
